Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center

The Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center (LMCC) is proud to host “Education and Integration: 1955-1975,” a pop-up exhibit currently on display. The exhibit presents St. Johns County’s history of integration in public schools during the Civil Rights movement. “Education and Integration” starts at the Brown v. Board of Education court case in 1955 highlighting the next twenty years of struggle to create equal educational opportunities for all students. The exhibit features the historic photographs of the local Black schools and student life, as well as Black educators who persevered during the transition to fully integrated schools.

Her debut exhibit, “Education and Integration: 1955-1975,” was created by recent graduate, Emma Bradley, as her senior capstone project. Bradley attended Flagler College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Public History. This exhibit is “a culmination of her work in the Public History major and her own interest in personal stories.” After graduation, Bradley will continue to work in her field at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and in the future pursue a masters degree in Archival Studies.

The LMCC serves to promote, preserve and perpetuate over 450 years of African American history and cultural heritage in northeast Florida. For more information on visiting the museum, visit the “Plan Your Visit” page on the LMCC website.
